Grip & Stance Check

5–7 min station
Teaches

A great starting position for hitting. Balanced, athletic, and ready to move — gives her a real chance to make solid contact.

Bring ● Bat ● Helmet
Setup
  • Each player has a bat and helmet.
  • No ball needed for this drill.
  • Helper stands where they can see both the hands and the feet.
How it works
  1. The player gets into hitting position.
  2. Helper checks the grip first.
  3. Then helper checks the stance.
  4. Reset and repeat 5–6 times.
  5. Once it looks good, one slow practice swing — then check again.
Watch for
  • Hands are together on the bat.
  • Knocking knuckles lined up in a row across both hands.
  • Feet about shoulder-width apart.
  • Knees bent — she looks athletic, not stiff.
  • Balanced, not leaning forward or back.
What to say
Shake hands with the bat.
Bend your knees a little.
Get balanced and ready.
Yes — that looks strong, hold that!
High-five moments
  • She finds her stance on her own.
  • Knees bent and balanced without reminders.
  • A confident, ready look in her eyes.
Make it easier

Fix one thing at a time. Start with the feet and knees, then move to the hands. Celebrate each fix — small wins stack up fast.

Level it up

Have her set up with her eyes closed, then open and self-check. Or time it — a solid stance in 3 seconds.

Key cue
“Shake hands with the bat, bend your knees like you’re ready to pounce.”
