Teaches

Finish the throw. Lots of young players cut the arm off after release, and that hurts both accuracy and power.

Bring ● Softball ● Glove ● Partners
Setup
  • Players stand 15–20 feet apart.
  • Helper watches the finish more than the result of the throw.
  • Normal partner throws work great for this one.
How it works
  1. The player makes a normal throw.
  2. After the throw, the helper checks where her throwing hand finishes.
  3. The hand should continue across her body and finish low — near her opposite hip or knee.
  4. Repeat for several throws.
  5. If needed, slow it down and exaggerate the finish — make it a little silly.
Watch for
  • Throwing hand finishes across the body.
  • She doesn’t stop the arm right after letting go.
  • Body continues forward instead of pulling away.
  • The finish looks smooth, not stiff.
What to say
Finish the throw.
Let your arm come all the way through.
Reach across and down.
Yes — don’t stop early, that felt great!
High-five moments
  • Her hand finishes across her body naturally.
  • A throw that looks smoother than her last one.
  • She says “that felt good” — the finish is doing the work for her.
Make it easier

Half speed. Exaggerate the finish like you’re taking a little bow. Once she feels it a few times, bring the speed back.

Level it up

Throw with a towel instead of a ball — the finish is obvious. Or set a cone on the opposite side and try to lightly “slap” it at the finish.

Key cue
“Throw it and bow.”
